Self-build Studio
A self build project in my garden to accommodate the Starfish Puppet Team, with room for storage, making puppets and props and recording performances. The concrete base and brick plinth were installed by a local builder and we also used a local electrician for the electrical work, we built the rest ourselves with help from friends and family.
We used timber stud insulated with sheep’s wool and lined with OSB internally which we painted white as the internal finish. Externally we used vertical battens spaced at the length of the feather edged boards to reduce the need for cutting and overlapping joints.
The roof is a profiled bitumen sheet that was very easy to install and we made our own doors from tongue and grooved softwood with a stained glass feature that I made for the front door. The windows are double glazed sealed units that we had made up by a local glazier and framed ourselves with softwood surrounds and hardwood sills.
