Eastcombe Baptist Church
Eastcombe Baptist Church
A Grade II listed chapel and manse. The chapel was originally built in 1801 and the manse was later added to the side in 1817. It is understood that the chapel was remodelled in 1860 when the original ‘double roof ‘ was replaced with a single ridge slate roof orientated through 90 degrees. The gable ends were built up and the original eaves line can be seen in the smoother stone band on the front elevation. The balcony and organ were installed at this time and there are signs of blocked up openings visible in the elevations show evidence of alterations carried out at this time.
The condition survey identified areas of deteriorating stone and the possible cause of water ingress and damp. The main entrance included a step down into the building that was also a cause of water ingress and we included suggestions as to how that water could be diverted away from entering the building instead of changing the floor levels inside as part of the report.
